Sailing into Adventure: A Family Day Trip to Tangier
Eager to introduce my kids to a new culture, I embarked on the Tangier Ferry Adventure from Tarifa. Join me as I recount our seamless journey across the Strait of Gibraltar and our day of discovery in Morocco.
Setting Sail from Tarifa
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can both educate and entertain my children. When I heard about the Tangier Ferry Adventure from Tarifa to Tangier, I knew it was an opportunity not to be missed. The idea of crossing from Spain to Morocco in just 35 minutes was thrilling, and the promise of a seamless journey with all logistics handled was a huge relief for a single mom like me.
We arrived at the port in Tarifa early in the morning, greeted by a friendly agent who took care of all the formalities and handed us our ferry tickets. The kids were buzzing with excitement as we boarded the fast ferry, their imaginations running wild with thoughts of the adventures that awaited us in Morocco. The crossing was smooth, and before we knew it, we were stepping onto a new continent, ready to explore.
Discovering Tangier’s Treasures
Our guide, Mohamed, and driver, Momo, were waiting for us as we disembarked. Their warm smiles and welcoming demeanor instantly put us at ease. Mohamed’s knowledge of Tangier was impressive, and he had a knack for engaging the kids with stories and facts about the city’s rich history.
Our first stop was Cap Spartel, where the Mediterranean and Atlantic Oceans meet. The kids were fascinated by the idea of two vast bodies of water converging, and it was a perfect spot for a family photo. Next, we ventured to the Caves of Hercules, a place steeped in myth and legend. The kids loved exploring the caves, and Mohamed’s tales of Hercules added an extra layer of magic to the experience.
The highlight of our day was undoubtedly the visit to the Medina of Tangier. The bustling markets, vibrant colors, and enticing aromas were a feast for the senses. We wandered through the souks, sampling olives and cheeses, and even tried our hand at haggling for souvenirs. It was a wonderful opportunity for the kids to practice their Spanish and learn a few words of Arabic, making the experience both fun and educational.
A Taste of Morocco
No trip to Tangier would be complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and our lunch at a traditional Moroccan restaurant was a culinary delight. Even my picky eater was won over by the flavors of tagine and couscous. The meal was a perfect way to introduce the kids to Moroccan culture, and they were eager to try everything on offer.
As we made our way back to the port, Mohamed ensured that our departure was as smooth as our arrival. He personally stamped our passports and walked us to the ferry, making sure we didn’t have to wait in line. It was this attention to detail and genuine care that made the Tangier Ferry Adventure such a memorable experience for our family.
Reflecting on our day in Tangier, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to share such a unique adventure with my children. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable memories, and I would highly recommend this experience to any family looking to explore the wonders of Morocco.
