Additionally, the tour includes a visit to a workshop where “shell candles” are crafted from beeswax, with insights into their uses and the customs surrounding their creation.

• Santa Maria del Tule - The guide will share the story of the magnificent Tule tree, which is over 2000 years old and one of the tallest and widest in the world.

As this is the first stop, and breakfast might have been missed, local women offer tamales, atoles, and stew tacos for purchase, providing a chance to enjoy some food before moving on to the next destination.

• Hierve el Agua - Visitors will delight in the natural pools and petrified waterfalls. Swimming and hiking with local guides are available upon arrival at the entrance, where a voluntary tip is appreciated.

Contrary to popular belief, the walk to the natural pools is not extensive; it takes about 8 minutes from the parking lot, with a well-maintained path. Dressing rooms are available for changing into swimsuits, and swimsuits are also sold at the entrance if needed. It’s best to have one ready in your backpack.

• Zona Arqueologica de Mitla - The tour includes a visit to the archaeological site of Mitla, accompanied by a guide who will discuss its historical significance.

It is believed that around 200 AD, the Zapotecs began to settle in the area, showing their reverence for the dead in what was known as the “place of restlessness” of the deceased.
