Embark on a journey to explore the Roman ruins in Algeria, located approximately an hour’s drive from Algiers.
The first stop is Cherchell (optional), a town established by the Phoenicians from Carthage around 400 BC. Situated on the northern Maghreb coast, 100 km west of Algiers, it was originally a trading post.
Cherchell became part of the Numidian kingdom under Jugurtha, who passed away in 104 BC. It was a significant city for the Berber monarchy and its generals.
Next, the tour proceeds to Tipaza port, where a delightful lunch of grilled fresh fish is included in the tour package.
During the Roman Empire, the area was known as Tipasa. The modern town, founded in 1857, is notable for its ancient ruins and sandy coastline.
Tipasa, as it was called, was an ancient Punic trading post conquered by Ancient Rome and later transformed into a military colony by Emperor Claudius for the conquest of the Mauretanian kingdoms.
After the visit, the tour returns to Algiers with a drop-off at the hotel.
