The direction taken will depend on the weather that night: clouds can obscure the Aurora, so the priority will be to find clear skies. If necessary, crossing the border into Finland is an option!
Important: Weather forecasts for Tromsø are not a reason to cancel the tour; the sky over the city does not reflect the conditions in the areas where the Aurora is sought. The goal is to leave Tromsø to find clear skies. If there are any doubts about the weather, please feel free to contact the operator before canceling the reservation.
- Troms - Once the ideal spot is found, a quiet area away from other groups and artificial lights will be sought. Waiting is part of the adventure: the Aurora may appear in a few minutes or take a couple of hours. Meanwhile, a campfire will be lit, snacks and hot chocolate will be enjoyed, and fascinating insights about this magical phenomenon will be shared. In winter, temperatures can range from +5 °C to -30 °C, so thermal suits will be provided to keep everyone warm.
If you have a camera, guidance will be provided on how to set it up for the best Aurora photos. Additionally, professional photos will be taken to ensure an unforgettable memory of this special night.
- Troms - It’s important to remember that nature is unpredictable: sometimes the sky may be overcast or solar activity may be low. However, even on the most uncertain nights, just 20 minutes of clear sky can offer a breathtaking display. With experience in local weather and advanced tools, every effort will be made to be in the right place at the right time.
Nights without the Aurora are rare, but they can happen. Therefore, a 100% sighting guarantee cannot be provided.
The tour’s duration will depend on how long it takes to find the best conditions. Sometimes a 30-minute drive from Tromsø is enough; other times, a true Aurora hunt will be undertaken, covering more kilometers to find a starry sky. Whatever the night holds, an unforgettable adventure is guaranteed!
