ZANZIBAR STONE TOWN TOUR:
This introductory guided tour of Zanzibar showcases a vibrant cultural heritage, where Arab, Indian, Persian, and European influences merge with local African traditions. The narrow, winding streets are lined with historic buildings featuring intricately carved wooden doors, shaded by balconies, loggias, and verandas. The tour includes visits to the Town Market, Slave Market, National Museum of Zanzibar, High Court Building, Slave Chambers, Old German Consulate, Africa House (formerly the English Club), Tip-Tip House, Kelele Square, Old British Consulate, Orphanage Home, Old Fort, Forodhani Gardens, House of Wonders, Sultan Palace (now a Museum), Custom House, Old Dispensary, and Old Harbour.
ZANZIBAR SPICE TOUR:
Following the Stone Town tour, the journey continues to the Kizimbani spice plantations, a 35-minute drive from Stone Town. The tour guide will introduce a wide variety of spices, fruits, herbs, plants, and flowers used ornamentally and medicinally by the villagers of Kizimbani. Participants will have the chance to pick, smell, and taste fruits and spices not commonly found on supermarket shelves, such as cloves, star fruit, tangerine trees, lemongrass, mangosteen, and ‘lipstick trees’. This is an ideal place to purchase locally made perfumes and oils. There will be time to sample different local fruits and buy souvenirs, if desired. After the tour, transportation will be provided back to the cruise.
