Crafting the perfect hues was an elaborate affair, often extending over several weeks. Artists employed brushes of exceptionally fine quality.

Some of the finest examples of these paintings originate from the early 16th century. They are exemplified by a collection of miniatures, commonly referred to as the “Kulhadar Group.” This group features illustrations from the ‘Chaurapanchasika’ – “Fifty Verses of the Thief by Bilhan, the Gita Govinda, and the Bhagavata Purana and Ragamala. The style of these miniatures is characterized by the use of vibrant contrasting colors, dynamic and angular drawing, and transparent drapery.
