Arrival and Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa for Rhino Visit and Top of the Falls.
Murchison Falls National Park - Upon arrival at the airport, embark on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park. This park is renowned for its roaring rapids and expansive plains, offering opportunities to see lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffalo, and elephants. The park is also home to a large concentration of hippos and Nile crocodiles. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled with the 450 bird species, including the elusive shoebill stork, dwarf kingfisher, white-thigh hornbill, and Goliath heron. Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking before continuing to the park. Enjoy a late lunch at Kabalega Dinners Restaurant near Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary before proceeding to Murchison Falls National Park. Upon arrival, visit the top of the falls to witness the world’s most powerful waterfall before heading to the lodge.
Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Trip to the Base of the Falls.
Murchison Falls National Park - Start the day with breakfast before embarking on a game drive in the park’s northern region to spot some of the ‘big five’ (buffaloes, lions, elephants, and possibly leopards). Other wildlife includes Rothschild giraffes, bushbucks, warthogs, waterbuck, and various antelope species.
Return to your accommodation for lunch and a short rest. Afterward, enjoy a 3-hour boat trip to the base of the falls, a highlight of the Murchison Falls safari. Get close to the water’s wildlife, passing hippo pods, crocodiles, and numerous aquatic birds on the way to the majestic waterfalls. Capture countless photos, so bring your camera along.
Day 3: Transfer to Kibale National Park
Kibale National Park - Before transferring to Kibale, visit the Nile Delta, where the Victoria Nile meets Lake Albert. The delta’s banks host hundreds of bird species, including the rare shoebill stork and papyrus endemics. A boat safari through the delta is a must for birdwatchers. During this approximately 5-hour tour, enjoy breakfast while taking in the serene scenery. As you approach Lake Albert, you may see fishermen in canoes, locals fetching water, and possibly wild game along the banks. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, and elephants bathing in the river. Keep an eye on the treetops for monkeys like eastern fringed monkeys and baboons. The boat trip begins early in the morning, ideal for photographers.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a Night Game Drive.
Queen Elizabeth National Park - Track the famous inhabitants of Kibale National Park, the chimpanzees, who share 98% of human genes. Uganda is home to approximately 5,000 wild chimpanzees, easily sighted due to their dense populations. The chimpanzee trekking experience is conducted on well-maintained trails. Kibale also boasts a diverse concentration of other primates, more than any other East African forest. Besides chimpanzees, find red colobus, red-tailed guenon, white-nosed monkey, gray-cheeked mangabey, blue monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey, and black-and-white colobus monkey. Afterward, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a night game drive, with the possibility of an evening game drive if time permits.
Day 5: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Trip along the Kazinga Channel.
Queen Elizabeth National Park - In the morning, drive to the renowned Queen Elizabeth National Park for an afternoon arrival and evening game drive. Explore the park’s 200 kilometers of well-maintained game viewing tracks. With 5,000 hippos, 2,500 elephants, and over 10,000 buffalo thriving in its grasslands and shorelines, the park promises sightings of Africa’s iconic species, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, various antelope species, and predators like lions, leopards, civet, genet, and serval cats. Black-and-white colobus monkeys are easily spotted in the trees, along with the bold baboons.
Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi NP with Enroute Game Drive along the Ishasha Sector.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Begin the journey to Bwindi National Park via the Ishasha Sector, the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for its tree-climbing lions. While lion cubs worldwide often climb trees for fun, adults rarely do. However, these lionesses enjoy resting in fig trees to escape tsetse flies and enjoy a cool breeze. This is a memorable sight, as these photogenic lions pose for your camera. Don’t miss the stunning scenery and superb birdlife in this remote southern section of the park.
Day 7: Go Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.
Lake Mburo National Park - Encounter the rare and endangered Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, an unforgettable experience. Half of the world’s gorilla population resides under Uganda’s mist-covered rainforest canopies. Accompanied by an experienced park ranger, track one of the nine habituated family groups in the park. Depending on the gorillas’ location, the trek can last 2 to 7 hours. Once located, enjoy an hour observing these fascinating primates, whose habits and mannerisms remind us of our own. After gorilla trekking, transfer directly to Lake Mburo National Park.
Day 8: 2-Hour Morning Horse Ride at Lake Mburo National Park, then Transfer to Entebbe Airport.
Lake Mburo National Park - Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the accommodation before embarking on a two-hour horse ride. Depart for Entebbe with en route stopovers at the Uganda Equator line mark in Kayabwe for memorable photos and possibly purchasing art pieces of interest. Continue the journey, arriving in the late afternoon/evening for drop-off at the airport to catch your flight home.
