- Tourist Port - Begin your adventure with a hotel pickup, then board a catamaran at Don Eduardo Arturo Brisighelli pier to explore the narrow strait adorned with the Tierra del Fuego islands.
Embark on a 2.5-hour cruise to enjoy the stunning rocky isles, glaciers, city landmarks, and wildlife on the Beagle Channel, named after Charles Darwin’s ship, the Beagle, which sailed these waters in the 1830s.
- Islas Alicia - As the vessel travels east along the coastline, take in views of the Maritime Museum, located in former prison buildings, and the End of the World Museum, which focuses on the region’s natural and aboriginal history. Listen to guided commentary on board about the notorious old prison, now featuring a replica of Darwin’s ship, and Ushuaia’s history as a penal colony. Pass by the jagged, snow-capped peaks of the Olivia and Cinco Hermanos (Five Brothers) mountains, towering over the city’s industrial area.
Amidst breathtaking views of water, sea, and mountains, sail past the Tunnel and Fique Ranch, and the Encajonado River. The boat nears the small promontory of Les Eclaireurs lighthouse, a candy-striped beacon surrounded by colonies of rock shags. Under a potentially cloudy sky, learn about the SS Monte Cervantes, which met its tragic end here in 1930, with parts still visible above the water’s surface.
- Hosteria Les Eclaireurs - As you head to the center of the Beagle Channel, encounter the Les Éclaireurs lighthouse. Built in 1920, this iconic red-and-white striped beacon is a symbol of Ushuaia. On one of the islands, remnants of the 1930 shipwreck, Monte Cervantes, remain visible, adding historical depth to the area’s scenic beauty.
- Las Margaritas - On the return westward, your catamaran quietly approaches ‘Isla de Lobos,’ home to numerous sea lions, fur seals, and king cormorants that resemble small penguins. Enjoy close-up views of these mammals as they grunt, bark, and perhaps even jostle for territory.
- Canal Beagle, Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego - Continue towards Bird Island, where you can admire the diverse bird species. Observe seagulls, the majestic king cormorants, the graceful petrels, steamer ducks, and giant albatrosses, encountering up to 20 fascinating bird species along the journey.
- Muelle Turistico - Take in views of Martial Glacier as you sail through Paso Chico (Small Passage) to return to the pier in Ushuaia. From there, enjoy transport back to your hotel.
