A Step Back in Time

As a wildlife photographer and avid traveler, my journeys often lead me to the heart of Africa, where the wild landscapes and rich history never cease to amaze me. This year, my adventure brought me to the iconic Victoria Falls, where I embarked on the Bridge Tour that promised a blend of history and engineering marvels. Little did I know, this experience would transport me back over a century, to the very inception of the Victoria Falls Bridge.

Upon arrival, the anticipation was palpable. After the necessary formalities, we were ushered into a presentation room where we were introduced to Monsieur Georges Camille Imbault, the chief engineer behind the bridge’s construction. Or rather, an actor portraying him with such authenticity that it felt as though we were truly in the presence of the man himself. His tales of triumphs and challenges during the bridge’s construction were not only informative but also deeply engaging. It was a theatrical performance that brought history to life, setting the stage for the adventure that lay ahead.

Traversing the Catwalks

With the historical context firmly etched in our minds, it was time to step onto the bridge itself. Equipped with safety harnesses and guided by our knowledgeable hosts, we ventured onto the catwalks beneath the bridge. The thrill of walking along these original pathways, once used by the very builders of this engineering feat, was indescribable.
