Discover the Wonders of Walvis Bay
Nestled along the Namibian coast, Walvis Bay is a treasure trove of natural beauty and adventure. With perfect weather forecasted for the weekend of April 12th and 13th, it’s the ideal time to explore this vibrant region. The clear skies and comfortable temperatures, ranging from 62.5°F to 73.7°F, make it perfect for outdoor activities. Start your weekend with the Lagoon Tour on either April 12th or 13th, from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. This guided tour takes you through the breathtaking Walvis Bay Lagoon, renowned for its diverse birdlife. As you travel along the narrow sand strip dividing the bay from the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll encounter flamingos, pelicans, and a Cape fur seal colony. The tour also includes a visit to the historic Pelican Point Lighthouse and a shipwreck that tells tales of battles lost to the sea. With light refreshments provided, this excursion is perfect for those with limited time who still want to experience the thrill of adventure.
“Really flexible and reliable - and a great afternoon. We were lucky enough to visit Namibia on a self-drive tour in July. With only two weeks, we realized that fitting in viewing seals, something we very much wanted to do, was going to be tricky. So we looked at the possibility of fitting in a tailor-made trip to Pelican Point whilst en route from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund. We got in touch with JP shortly before leaving the UK and got a very prompt email back saying that he would happily put something together for us that should be workable. It was all rather vague on our side as we had little idea what time we’d reach Walvis Bay but he was happy to go ahead on this basis. Anyway, it all worked fine - we met, were taken by JP out to Pelican Point passing a large flock of flamingos on the way and via a couple of drives down a sand dune (fun!) and in addition to a large number of seals saw jackals and a variety of other birds. JP was knowledgeable on all this and - quite unexpectedly on our part, produced a picnic (mostly made by his wife and delicious!) and bottle of champagne for us. We achieved exactly what we wanted to and thorough talking with JP greatly increased our knowledge of Walvis Bay and indeed Namibia as a whole. Thoroughly recommended.” - Reviewed on 2019-08-25
Embrace the Beauty of the Pink Lakes
After a morning of exploration, continue your adventure with the Flamingos and Pink Lakes tour, available on April 12th and 13th from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Capture unforgettable photos of these magnificent creatures against the backdrop of the lagoon’s serene waters.
Next, venture to the Walvis Bay Salt Works, where you’ll witness the striking pink lakes created by microorganisms. This distinctive landscape is a photographer’s dream, offering a unique perspective on the region’s natural beauty. As you drive along the sandy beach, with the ocean on one side and the Namib Naukluft dunes on the other, you’ll be captivated by the dramatic beauty of the Namib Desert.
Weather permitting, the tour includes a visit to Sandwich Harbour Lagoon, a RAMSAR site known for its breathtaking landscapes where towering sand dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. If high tides prevent direct access, you can still appreciate the lagoon from lookout points and enjoy a peaceful walk. After your exploration, unwind at a scenic spot with snacks and beverages, taking in the magnificent landscape views.
