For those seeking a thrilling start to their day, the Sandwich Harbour Tour offers an exhilarating drive between the ocean and ancient sand dunes. Available from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, this tour promises breathtaking views and a chance to capture the perfect photograph of the dunes meeting the sea. As one reviewer noted on August 20, 2024:
Sensations guaranteed - Sandwich harbor activity, 4×4 rodeo on Harbor sandwich dunes. Activity we added not foreseen in the original program and which cost us 500 € for 4. Our driver’s name is Christian and he’s an Afrikaner. We are a convoy of 7 vehicles with plenty of tourists. We make a first stop to see the flamingos. Then the salt marsh basins and that pink water. We then drive on the sand, first on the beach, then on small dunes, then medium and finally large ones. It’s like doing the Paris Dakar! Very impressive when the drivers take straight on steep descents! Arriving at the Sandwich Harbor site which is a very high dune falling to the sea, we stop for a photo shoot. On the way back, we stop in a toilet and the drivers set up tables for a picnic in the dunes. Unmissable activity not to be missed. We left at 1pm for a return at 6pm
Afternoon Adventures and Evening Serenity
As the day progresses, the temperature rises to a comfortable 69.3°F, making it ideal for an afternoon adventure. The Seal Colony and Dune Drive tour, available from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, offers a full-day exploration of the stunning landscapes surrounding Walvis Bay. This tour takes you to the heart of Sandwich Harbour, where the sea collides with towering dunes, creating a dramatic and unforgettable vista.
The tour also includes a visit to the seal colony at Pelican Point, home to over 50,000 seals. The sight of these majestic creatures basking in the sun is a highlight for many visitors. As one reviewer shared on February 9, 2025:
Great sandwich Harbour tour - We went with Willem as a guide and he was absolutely fantastic. We were lucky enough to have a vehicle with him all to ourselves and he made great conversation as well as telling us fascinating facts about the surroundings. He was safe, calm, and definitely knew how to make sure we had the most fun possible! Willem was an absolute legend of a guide and we would do the tour again next time we’re in Walvis Bay just to tour with him a second time! Thanks Willem for your kind hospitality and thoughtful facts!
As the sun sets, the overcast skies create a serene atmosphere, perfect for a quiet evening by the bay. The gentle breeze and the sound of the waves provide a soothing end to a day filled with adventure.
