For food, there are numerous options, with all baked goods made on-site! For those with a sweet tooth, the scones and cinnamon rolls are exceptional. A popular sandwich choice is the spicy ring, featuring a jalapeno cheese homemade bagel with a sausage quiche. Keto, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are also available.
- Giant Forest Museum - Located in a historic market within the Giant Forest sequoia grove at an elevation of 6,500 feet (1,980 m), this museum offers exhibits about sequoias and explains why this area is home to the largest trees.
- General Sherman Tree - The next destination is the General Sherman tree in the Giant Forest. This easy hike is surrounded by Giant Sequoias, some of the largest and oldest trees in the United States. Visitors can walk through the trunk of a fallen tree, stand inside a hollow tree, and capture numerous photos of these majestic giants.
- Big Trees Trail - This 0.75-mile (1 km) trail encircles Round Meadow, with vibrant trailside panels explaining sequoia ecology. Starting at the Giant Forest Museum, the paved, accessible trail is easy to follow. Parking for those with disability placards is available at the trailhead. Plan for a 1-hour round trip.
- Moro Rock Trail - Upon entering Sequoia National Park, Moro Rock towers overhead, thousands of feet above the highway. This impressive granite dome is a stunning geological feature that can be appreciated from both above and below.
A concrete and stone stairway with over 350 steps leads to the top of Moro Rock. Even a short distance from the parking area, above the forest canopy, the peaks of the Great Western Divide become visible. As you ascend, views extend from the foothills and San Joaquin Valley to the west, deep into the wilderness to the east.
Handrails along the path ensure safety, though it’s important to watch small children due to steep drop-offs along the route. The hike can be challenging; taking breaks during the climb can help acclimate to the thinner air at higher elevations.
