Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - After breakfast, embark on a drive to Tarangire National Park for a full-day game drive. Tarangire is one of Africa’s hidden treasures and is a must-visit for those who appreciate wilderness and solitude. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which flows through it and serves as the only water source during the dry season.
The landscape of Tarangire is remarkably diverse, featuring a unique mix not found elsewhere on the northern safari circuit. It is adorned with ancient baobab trees, which the Maasai believe were the first trees created, and large termite mounds. During the dry season, the intense sun draws moisture from the land, turning the earth a dusty red, while the wet season brings lush greenery and tall grasses.
Renowned for its large elephant population, the park is also home to zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, dwarf mongooses, impalas, buffaloes, and antelopes. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards also inhabit the area.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Today, travel to the Serengeti National Park, one of Africa’s top game parks. As you drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards the Serengeti, you will begin to appreciate the vastness of this region and be amazed by the abundance of wildlife and birdlife as you journey through the acacia-dotted savannah.
You have the option to visit a Maasai Village in the Ngorongoro Highlands, where you can meet the Elders, Warriors, women, and children, and learn about the culture, beliefs, and traditions of Tanzania’s last nomadic tribe.
The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a year-round destination, with each season offering its unique highlights, the most famous being the annual wildebeest migration, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
You will enjoy a game drive en route before arriving at the Serengeti for a half-day game drive.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Today, delve deeper into the renowned Serengeti on a full-day game drive.
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - Today, enjoy a full-day game drive in the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979, and one of the few places where humans and wildlife coexist harmoniously. The Ngorongoro Crater is renowned for Africa’s best game viewing, with a constant abundance of wildlife due to the permanent water supply on the crater floor.
Upon reaching the Crater’s rim, you will descend 610 meters into the Crater, where your safari truly begins. Spot the endangered black rhino, as well as wildebeests, buffaloes, zebras, elands, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, and of course, giant tusked elephants. The Crater also boasts the largest known population of lions, and you will also find leopards, cheetahs, and scavengers such as spotted hyenas, jackals, and rare wild dogs.
In the late afternoon, you will drive to the Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge for an overnight stay.
Lake Eyasi
Lake Eyasi - After an early breakfast, meet your local guide and together visit the Hadzabe Bush People and Datoga Tribe. Join them in their daily activities such as hunting and gathering. You will explore the areas where they collect fruits and roots and find water during the dry season, as well as visit the caves they call home.
After lunch, return to your lodge where the rest of the day is at leisure – take a swim in the pool for a refreshing break from the dusty conditions, enjoy a cool drink at the bar, or relax on your private balcony overlooking the lake.
Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park - Today, visit Lake Manyara National Park for a full-day game drive. Stretching along the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is home to giant fig trees, acacia woodlands, mahogany trees, and grassy flood plains. The contrasts of this area are simply breathtaking, with its open plains, towering escarpment, Soda Lake, dense woodlands, and distant volcanic peaks, described by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.”
Animals such as large buffaloes, wildebeests, giraffes, mongooses, dik-diks, and zebra herds gather on the grassy plains, while the narrow belt of acacia woodland is home to the legendary tree-climbing lions and tusked elephants.
Lake Manyara offers an excellent introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife, with more than 400 species recorded. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration.
In the late afternoon, return to Arusha for your final evening.
