Zanzibar - Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park - Upon arriving in Arusha from Zanzibar, the safari guide warmly greets the group and begins the drive towards the picturesque Rift Valley region. As Lake Manyara comes into view, the scenery transitions from highland countryside to lush, groundwater forest. Inside the park, a shady forest filled with ancient mahogany and fig trees awaits. This is one of the prime locations in Tanzania to observe large herds of elephants quietly moving among the trees. Blue monkeys leap between branches, and with a keen eye, one might spot a shy bushbuck hiding in the undergrowth. The lakeshore often shimmers pink with flamingos, while hippos gather in the refreshing waters. Lake Manyara is also renowned for its tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior in lions, so the guide may explore specific areas where they’re occasionally seen lounging on branches. As the afternoon light softens, the group leaves the park and heads towards the lodge, typically in Karatu. Overnight stay at Karatu Villa lodge or a similar accommodation.

Full Day in Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater - The day begins with a stunning journey through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. At the crater rim, the landscape unfolds into a breathtaking view of a vast, intact volcanic caldera, often misty in the morning, with sunlit patches revealing grasslands and lakes below. The descent into the crater is via winding, scenic tracks that offer sweeping views of the cliffs. Inside, the wildlife density is immediately apparent. This is one of the few places where the Big Five can be found in a single day. The exploration includes a mix of habitats: open grasslands where lions rest in the shade or patrol for prey, marsh areas home to elephants with impressively large tusks, shallow lakes dotted with hippos, and Lerai forest, a quieter region with monkeys, birds, and occasional leopards. A picnic lunch is typically enjoyed at a designated area near a hippo pool. Overnight stay at Karatu Lodge or Camp.

Tarangire National Park - Arusha - Fly to Zanzibar

Tarangire National Park - The day begins with a journey into Tarangire National Park, instantly recognizable by its massive baobab trees scattered across rolling landscapes and open plains. Tarangire is famous for having some of the largest elephant populations in East Africa. It’s common to encounter family herds crossing the tracks or gathering near the Tarangire River, which serves as a vital water source and attracts animals from across the region. As the exploration deepens into the park, varied wildlife is encountered: giraffes moving gracefully between acacia trees, large groups of impala, waterbuck near riverbeds, and often lions resting beneath shrubs or perched on termite mounds. After enjoying the changing landscapes, the group leaves the park and makes their way back towards Arusha. Once back in Arusha, they head to the airport for the flight returning to Zanzibar, completing the safari journey.
