A Rainy Day Adventure

As a professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours chasing waves along the sun-drenched coasts of Central America. But every now and then, I like to trade my surfboard for a different kind of adventure. This time, it was horseback riding through the lush tropical forests of Guanacaste Province at the Diamante Eco Adventure Park.

Arriving in Costa Rica during the rainy season might seem like a gamble, but the rain has a way of painting the landscape in vibrant hues of green. The day I visited Diamante, the skies were overcast, but the rain held off just long enough for me to embark on a leisurely horseback ride. The day concluded with a visit to a charming “coffee” house, where I met Aris, a knowledgeable guide who shared the secrets of sugar cane and coffee production. The hands-on experience of learning how sugar is harvested and transformed into brown sugar was eye-opening. And the coffee? Simply the best I’ve ever tasted.

But the real treat was learning about cacao and the process of making chocolate. As a lover of all things sweet, this was a highlight of the day. The rich, creamy chocolate was a perfect end to an unforgettable adventure.
