- Temple of Karnak - The Karnak Temple Complex is one of the most significant relics of ancient Egyptian civilization.
Karnak Temple stands as the largest temple complex of Ancient Egypt, serving as the primary state sanctuary during the New Kingdom. This complex includes temples dedicated to the Theban triad: the supreme god Amon-Ra, his wife Mut, and their son Khons. It is situated in the area of ancient Thebes, now known as Karnak, a small village on the eastern bank of the Nile, approximately 2.5 km from Luxor.
The Karnak Temple Complex, often referred to simply as Karnak, is a vast collection of decayed temples, chapels, and pylons.
- Valley of the Kings - The Valley of the Kings in Egypt is the burial site for most of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom, a period when ancient Egypt was an empire extending along the eastern Mediterranean coast (the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties). Notable pharaohs buried here include Thutmose II, Tutankhamun, and Ramses.
The tombs reflect elaborate preparations for the afterlife, where humans were promised eternal life and pharaohs were expected to unite with the gods. Mummification preserved the body so the deceased’s eternal soul could reanimate it in the afterlife.
- Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Hatshepsut’s temple is renowned as one of the world’s most remarkable architectural achievements.
The terraced temple on the West Bank of Luxor was constructed by Queen Hatshepsut. Hatshepsut (c.1473–1458 BC), the queen who became Pharaoh, erected a magnificent temple at Deir al-Bahari, on the west bank of Luxor. It is directly across the Nile from Karnak Temple, the main sanctuary of the god Amun. Hatshepsut’s temple, Djeser-djeseru, “the Holy of Holies,” was designed by Senenmut, the chief steward of Amun.
She was a beloved pharaoh among the people of her time.
- Colossi of Memnon - Colossi of Memnon
These are two enormous stone statues representing Pharaoh Amenhotep III, constructed in the 14th century BC.
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues that actually depict Pharaoh Amenhotep III, not Memnon. For the past 3400 years, they have stood in the necropolis of Thebes, across the Nile River from the modern city of Luxor. The statues portray the seated Amenhotep III (c. 14th century BC), with his hands resting on his knees and his gaze directed east towards the river and the rising sun.
