Ninh Binh: A Journey Through Time and Nature’s Artistry
Drawn by tales of lush landscapes and historical charm, I embarked on a journey to Ninh Binh. Join me as I explore the ancient capital, glide through wet caves, and climb to breathtaking views.
A Journey Through Time and Nature
As a retired teacher with a penchant for road trips, I have always been drawn to the open road and the stories it holds. My recent adventure to Ninh Binh, a place I had heard so much about, was no exception. Nestled about 90 kilometers south of Hanoi, Ninh Binh is a treasure trove of lush green paddy fields and striking limestone landscapes. It was a journey that promised not just scenic beauty but a connection to history and culture.
The day began with a sense of anticipation as my husband and I set out to explore the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. The air was thick with history, and as we wandered through the ancient temples, I couldn’t help but reflect on the stories of Vietnam’s first kings. The architecture, the carvings, and the serene surroundings transported me back in time, reminding me of the small towns and historical sites I had visited across America. Each place has its own story, its own charm, and Hoa Lu was no different.
The Dance of Nature
Our journey continued to Tam Coc, where we embarked on a sampan boat trip through the wet caves. The gentle rhythm of the oars against the water was soothing, and as we glided through the caves, I was reminded of the winding rivers and hidden gems I had discovered on my road trips back home. The limestone karsts rose majestically around us, their reflections dancing on the water’s surface. It was a scene of tranquility and beauty, a reminder of nature’s artistry.
Our guide, Young Yang, was attentive and knowledgeable, sharing stories of the land and its people. His care and attention to detail were reminiscent of the guides I had encountered in small American towns, always eager to share their love for their home. Even my husband, who is usually more interested in the mechanics of our RV than the stories of the road, was captivated by the tales of Ninh Binh.
Climbing to New Heights
The final leg of our journey took us to Mua Cave, where we climbed 500 steps to witness the breathtaking view of the Tam Coc river. The climb was challenging, but the reward was worth every step. Standing at the top, with the wind in my hair and the world spread out before me, I felt a sense of freedom and accomplishment that I had often felt on the open road.
As we made our way back, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experiences and memories we had gathered. Ninh Binh had offered us a glimpse into a world where history and nature danced together in perfect harmony. It was a journey that reminded me of the beauty of exploration, the joy of discovery, and the stories that connect us all.
For those of you who have followed my travels, you know that I cherish the open road and the stories it holds. Ninh Binh was a chapter in my journey that I will hold dear, a place where the past and present coexist in a dance of beauty and grace. If you ever find yourself in Vietnam, I highly recommend taking the time to explore this enchanting region. Ninh Binh Adventure
