Floating Through Paradise: A Day on the Peñas Blancas River
In search of a new adventure, I embarked on the Peñas Blancas River Safari Float in San Ramón. The promise of floating down a river, surrounded by lush forest and wildlife, was too tempting to resist. Here’s how my day unfolded.
A Morning of Tranquility on the Peñas Blancas River
As a seasoned surfer, I’m always on the lookout for new adventures that take me off the beaten path. So when I heard about the Peñas Blancas River Safari Float in San Ramón, I knew I had to experience it for myself. The idea of floating down a river, surrounded by the lush Costa Rican forest, was too tempting to resist.
The day began with an early morning pickup from my hotel. Our guide, Jose, greeted us with a warm smile and a promise of a day filled with wildlife and tranquility. As we made our way to the river, the anticipation built. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a golden glow over the landscape. It was the perfect start to what promised to be an unforgettable day.
Discovering the Hidden Treasures of the Forest
Once we arrived at the river, we boarded our small, motorless boat. The absence of an engine meant we could truly immerse ourselves in the sounds of nature. As we floated gently down the river, Jose’s keen eyes spotted a variety of wildlife. From the elusive three-toed sloths to the playful howler monkeys, each sighting was a reminder of the incredible biodiversity of this region.
Jose’s enthusiasm was infectious. His knowledge of the local flora and fauna was impressive, and he shared fascinating insights about each creature we encountered. The highlight for me was spotting the Jesus Christ Lizard, aptly named for its ability to “walk” on water. It was a moment of pure magic, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such wonders.
A Taste of Costa Rican Hospitality
After a morning of wildlife spotting, we made our way to a local finca for lunch. The farm was a charming oasis, offering a glimpse into the traditional Costa Rican way of life. We were treated to a delicious spread of fresh lemonade, beans, buffalo cheese, and more. The highlight was the fresh drip coffee, made using a traditional Costa Rican Chorreador. It was the perfect way to refuel after our morning on the river.
As we made our way back to La Fortuna, Jose’s sharp eyes spotted a two-toed sloth high up in a tree. He quickly set up his spotting scope, allowing us to get a closer look. It was a fitting end to a day filled with unforgettable experiences.
The Peñas Blancas River Safari Float was a reminder of the beauty and tranquility that can be found in nature. It was a day of discovery, laughter, and connection with the natural world. For anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this experience is not to be missed.
